Now that you have your beautiful deck in place, the next landscaping feature for you to start planning in order to create your backyard resort is a patio! A patio can be a fun escape from indoors, and especially on a hot day there is nothing quite like laying out in the sunshine, enjoying nature and a cool beverage.
Allow your personal taste to be reflected in the material that you choose for your patio. Many people enjoy brick as it has a classic look, it is durable and easy to install, and available in a number of colours and sizes. Interlocking pavers have a clean aesthetic, are fairly inexpensive and are easy to install; check out this site for some great designs and patterns. Another option is flagstone, which also comes in a number of colours and can be pre-cut for custom sizes or shapes.
Box gardens or potted plants can add a luxurious feel to your patio – just be sure to place them in an area that gets lots of sunlight. You can also incorporate water features such as a fountain or a pondless waterfall to your patio, much like this one we created for our past client.
If your outdoor kitchen is on your deck, you may choose to have your outdoor dining area on the patio, closer to nature to give your guests the true al fresco experience.
