Summer is a time where many choose to go on vacation with their friends or family, but how about skipping the out-of-town getaway in favour of a retreat right in your own backyard! There are many wonderful features that can give your outdoor living space the feeling of a private resort, so we thought we would do a series of blogs about our four favourites, and how you can incorporate them in to your own custom backyard landscaping.
Decks are the most popular low-cost way to add living space to your home, and can be used year-round with the right planning. Decks can have all the features of a kitchen, dining and entertainment area if you so wish!
For your outdoor kitchen, you will need a grilling/cooking area as well as an area to prepare the food. You may choose a simple counter space or a larger one if you plan to have bigger gatherings. An outdoor refrigerator and sink can come in very handy to save you from running back and forth from the house.
The dining area is often the focal point of the deck, so be sure to choose a location that is comfortable. There are a number of ways you can prevent the heat from making your meal experience an uncomfortable one for yourself and your guests: you may choose a tabletop umbrella, a canopy or pergola or even a large, well-positioned tree.
