Ron Jones has been a feature of the Calgary landscaping profession for over a quarter of a century. He began Ananda Landscapes in 1978 and worked with a number of local landscape architects earning commissions for private residences as well as commercial projects such as the Lethbridge Courthouse and Calgary L.R.T. stations.
It is not surprising that he was one of the first in the province to take and pass the Provincial exams to become a Journeyman Landscape Gardener, a qualification he has held for over 20 years. Ron has been
active in the Nursery Trades Association of Alberta where he was involved in establishing standards for the Landscaping profession. He was elected a director of the Association in 1980 and went on to become Chairman
in 1982.
In 1985 he became a partner in Almac Landscapes, where he was the senior Landscape Designer. In addition to designing hundreds of residential projects, Ron supervised the installation of hard
landscaping at Spruce Meadows and Almac was involved on a yearly basis in ongoing upgrades to the Spruce Meadows site.
Ron left Almac in 2000 to focus more on projects where his individual style goals can be realized. He is committed to creating natural landscape
ecosystems that are both beautiful and practical. This is particularly evident in his work on creating naturally balanced Pond/Stream systems that rely on a combination of water plants, fish, natural filtration
media and healthful bacteria and algae to create a living ecosystem that can thrive and grow without the need for constant maintenance and harsh chemicals.
Ron has also invested heavily in Computer Aided Design
software and hardware that allows him to create realistic computer images of landscape designs that assist both he and the client in visualizing the finished project
Ron strives to give the clients options,
probably many that they had never thought of before. His designs are geared to the client's interests - whether for a low maintenance entertainment space or a high intensity garden that will give the home owner
hours of pleasurable interaction. His specialty is to transform a garden from a high maintenance, never to be used area, to an desirable and exquisite outdoor living space
